WANTED: MORE OLDIES! IT SEEMS ODD, BUT THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THIS SITE FRESH IS TO ACQUIRE MORE OLD ITEMS!

Though brought into the world as "JR Hughes", I was dubbed "The Western Wanderer" by the supreme powers of All The Dirt Racing News. I have enjoyed many years as both a writer and a photographer through out the South Dakota/Wyoming/Montana corridor. Or, as I see it, a guy with a typewriter and a camera.

My true passion is the collecting of auto racing photos and memorabilia, and my hope is to stimulate this collection by reaching out to the masses. I would graciously accept any offers to view, copy or scan photos or other artifacts. Or just to share a memory or two.

To the left I will post photos of my travels across the racing regions of South and North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana, beginning with the 2000 racing seasons and ensuing years. With a grand sense of "wanderment", I never know just where I am headed. Should anyone wish to purchase something I have taken, click on the "Click here to contact me" link and let's get hooked up.

I just ask to respect the images I post here whether they belong to me or the host of other worthy camera operaters over the years.

Above all else, enjoy.

Some people come and go in your life without making an imprint. Then comes along that special person that seems to make the impossible, possible, leaving their mark on the world and more importantly, your life. Though the time I knew Mearl Tschetter was brief, the lessons he taught-without teaching-will last forever.

Mearl's battle against a foe of no repute is over now. I'll miss the e-mails, the calls, the hopes of a man who life seemed to have no hope for.

Race in peace, my friend. My world is a better place for having known you.

Mearl Tschetter

Since I became the family shutterbug at an early age, this is one of the last known (and located) photographs taken of me. Unlike the image that appears above my column in All The Dirt Racing News, this one is of the real me. The other is an imposter whose real identity is a well guarded company secret.
